While you will get a 4G connection in major hubs like Tambolaka, Waingapu, and Kupang, expect the signal to drop to 3G, EDGE, or disappear entirely in remote areas of Sumba, Sabu, and parts of Rote.

  • Providers like XL, Indosat, or Smartfren will generally not work outside of Kupang City. Consider this expedition a partial digital detox.

Best Time to Visit

  • The Dry Season (May to October): This is the optimal window for this expedition. During these months, the savannahs in Sumba turn a spectacular golden-brown, the skies are brilliantly clear for photography, and the surf swells in Rote are at their world-class best.
